Associate Artist Program (Walls):

The Brush Art Gallery and Studios provides display space for artists in its attractive, hallway gallery. We are open 5 to 6 days per week and host many exhibition openings and events, thereby ensuring maximum exposure for your work. We offer very reasonable rents and require a very small commission for handling your sales. See details below.

  • Spaces are located near the entrances of our resident artists' studios
  • Majority of spaces include a pedestal

  • Approximately 5 - 6 annual, professionally produced and advertised exhibitions in front gallery, attracting art-buying visitors throughout the year
  • The Brush hosts about 5 annual fundraisers and events and participates in all major city-wide festivals (Folk Festival, Quilt Festival, Poetry Festival, City of Lights, etc.), which attracts many visitors and increases your exposure to the public
  • Spaces range in price from $15.00 to $35.00 per month, payable quarterly in advance
  • A low, 25% commission taken on sales to cover labor and materials.
  • Bags and reasonable packaging materials provided for sales. For artwork that is unusually large, artists must provide packaging
  • Artist must maintain own space (i.e. rotating artwork, tidying own area, etc.)
  • Artist must provide business cards, postcards or brochures clearly indicating how customers can contact you
  • Other self-promotional material is strongly encouraged
  • Your work must be juried
  • We strive to ensure a variety of mediums
  • Emerging and minority artists are encouraged to apply
  • Gallery sitting is not required, but we always welcome volunteers!
 

Studio Rental Information:

The Brush Art Gallery and Studios was the first organization in Lowell to provide studio space to artists. Modeled after the Torpedo Factory art complex in Alexandria, Virginia, the Brush offers artists the opportunity to demonstrate and sell their work to the public for up to six days a week. Housed in a beautiful, downtown restored silk mill with granite and brick walls, arched windows and the original oak ceiling beams, the Brush provides low-rent studios and a supportive environment to artists of all media.

  • Opportunity to take advantage of the Brush's active participation in community events such as Lowell Quilts, Festival of Wreaths during City of Lights Parade, Four by Four for Education and more, all of which attract visitors to the gallery and your studios.

  • Approximately two artist duty days per month
  • Greeting visitors while on duty
  • Processing cash and credit card sales while on duty
  • Opening/closing the gallery while on duty
  • Answering phones while on duty
  • Emptying trash while on duty
  • Sweeping and tidying the facility while on duty
  • Attending monthly Resident Artists' meetings
  • You must be juried into the studios and interviewed by the current Resident Artists
